Logan's Lullaby by Kathy Collins Barber

Author Biography:
Kathy Collins Barber was the fifth child born to Alfred and Ella Collins from Pound, Virginia. She grew up with her six sisters and four brothers in the coalfields of Wise County, where big families were the norm. Kathy enjoyed being one of the middle children, where she was sheltered by her older siblings while also providing shelter to her younger ones. The family was close, and everyone worked together under the watchful eye of their mother. They gained many practical skills and wholesome values as they lived up to their mom’s expectations, and by far the most important lesson was that they were expected to take care of one another.

Kathy worked for several years as a grade school teacher, where she relied on the lessons from her upbringing just as much as those she learned in college. After an enjoyable teaching career, she transitioned into the business world to work in management in the legal industry. Here again, she found the practical experience within her family unit to be the model for her management style and learned that her mother’s teachings were just as effective in the corporate world as they were in the household.

Kathy has always incorporated writing into her work. As a teacher, she wrote songs for the children. As a manager, she wrote programs about new ways to do the same old things. All along, she wrote songs inspired by personal experiences, both good and bad, and by people who touched her life in meaningful ways.

Now Kathy is focusing on writing songs, children’s books, and a book about her experiences while traveling around the country for her work during the past few years.
